Behind the name – Talbot Runhof

To be part of the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne is probably the biggest honor for a high fashion designer. Especially when this designer is not French and not based in Paris. There are only two German design labels, which received the honor of being considered Haute Couturiers. One of them is Wunderkind by Wolfang Joop, and the other one is Talbot Runhof. Talbot Runhof is a German high fashion label based in Munich and showing in Paris.

The German Fashion Industry

Germany is not the first country that comes to one’s mind when thinking about fashion. Nevertheless, a lot of famous designers and brands have their origin here. One of Fashion’s biggest masterminds, Karl Lagerfeld, was born and partly raised in Hamburg. Jil Sander, Wolfgang Joop and Hugo Boss, are also internationally renowned designers from Germany. Some of them left the country, some of them show in other cities and a few stayed at home. Yet, during the last 30 years, German design drew more attention. Brands like Aigner Munich, MCM and Talbot Runhof made a name in the industry.

At the beginning of the 2000, Berlin became a hub of creativity. Houses like Kaviar GaucheMarina Hoermannseder or Lala Berlin started off as independent labels, but are now famous for their unique aesthetics. The Berlin Fashion Week is starting to gain more and more attention every season for its wide range of design as well as trade shows like Bread and Butter.

Together with the design industry, the publishing industry started to set foot into Germany. German Vogue established itself in 1979 (and for a short period between 1928 – 1929). Harper’s Bazar (1985), L’officiel and Elle (1988) joined later. With the rise of the Berlin art scene, independent magazines like Interview Germany, Indie Magazine or Sleek magazine began to appear.

Today, Germany is a growing emerging market for the fashion industry, with a focus on classic heritage brands as well as independent labels.

Quickly, the designer duo managed to gain the trust of German customers and magazines and started to expand internationally. Their success is based on creating beautiful gowns with exquisite details, that do not shock but underline subtle elegance. Over the years, the brand gained an even bigger name. Celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Anna Netrebko and Julia Roberts were seen wearing Talbot Runhof at red carpet events, which gained the brand an even bigger name over the years. Since 2006, they are a fixed part of Parisian Prêt-à-Porter defilées.
