You all might remember the iconic Kenzo sweater with the large embroidered tiger head motif on front that became a hype overnight a few years ago. The tiger head has become a symbol of the French brand and today I personally could not imagine a collection without it. Behind the success of the label is noone else than the Californian designer duo, Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, who rejuvenated the brand in 2011. It was really something that had to be done, in my opinion. There is a time for each brand to change something. Not just the design, in this case, but Kenzo also made the brand more accessible by shifting the price points, remaining luxurious but more contemporary. Before that, Kenzo used to be submerged and overpriced. What I like about today’s Kenzo are its vibrant colours and youthful pieces that are being integrated into each collection. I am positive that the American and Asian influence of Humberto and Carol helps them stick to the original designs whilst modernizing the fashion brand by introducing contemporary pieces, like espadrilles (also with the tiger head) and caps.
In the photos bellow we are wearing the flared day dresses by Kenzo, made of cotton: Des in pink with the 90’s inspired style embroidery and me in grey with the tiger emblem. We both combined it with the colourful Kenzo clutches.
