Grand Ferdinand

by Jen

We have just spent three wonderful days with the Vangardist family at the Villa Antoinette, where we enjoyed an incredibly beautiful view over the Austrian mountains. Besides the view we enjoyed shooting for their upcoming #VangardistNostalgiaIssue, which will be released in June.
I really don’t want to reveal too much as I want to keep it a surprise until the last minute. All I can say is that we shot some insane looks, something totally different from what you have seen us do. Stay tuned for more!

Finally I can disclose our photo series from our stay at the Grand Ferdinand in Vienna. “I gotta see this!“ was my first reaction when I read an article about it in an Austrian Lifestyle magazine some months ago. You guys already know that we both love to discover beautiful and charming places. To me it is very important to know the whole story behind hotels like these since there is so much love and attention to details involved into creating it. That’s why it did not take long to pay a visit to this noble location…

The Grand Ferdinand is one of the newest in town and is positioned at the Ringstraße, the boulevard encircling Vienna’s Old Town. The boutique hotel is situated in a 1950’s buidling, that celebrates Austrian tradition with modern amenities comprising of 188 rooms and 3 restaurants. When entering the lobby it gives you the feeling of entering a different time. The Grand Ferdinand Restaurant situated on the left reminded me more of a salon due to its interior decoration: a vast glitzy Lobmayer chandelier (Viennese glass-maker) leather benches and the Thonet chairs. Here we relished in an extensive and delicious breakfast! Gulasch & Champagne, which is the second restaurant on the ground floor, can be found next to the hotel entrance and features snack and small plates.

The rooms are inspired by the imperial era of Emperor Franz Joseph and are equipped with very comfortable beds! Above the bathroom sinks one can find round, leather-rimmed mirrors made by Danish Design House Gubi in the style of Jacques Adnet. I especially loved the contrast between the charcoal grey walls and the mirror frames in white or the freestanding bathtub in white.
Two points that might appear unusual: the bathroom is integrated in the bedroom. Also, the smaller rooms do not feature a wardrobe!
I highly recommend you to have a look at the rooftop terrace as it features a pool and a marvelous 360 degree view! Here you can find the third culinary hotspot of the hotel: the Grand Etage.
You definitely need to try and hire out a 1964 Jaguar that belonged to the grandfather of Austrian Formula One Champion Niki Lauda or a Maserati for your tour around Vienna!
