Dior Cruise 2016

How incredibly epic was the setting of this year’s Dior Cruise fashion show! I was really impressed by the choices of venues the French Haute Couture House has for their presentations every single time; it’s always something you wouldn’t expect at all. And that’s the great thing about it, Dior constantly keeps on being inspirational and innovative in its development.

Le Palais Bulles, Pierre Cardin’s (who worked for Dior from 1946 until 1950 as the first tailor in the workshop of Christian Dior) famous bubble house reminded me of the Flinstones or Teletubbies house 🙂 ! The futuristically looking palace (available to rent!!) was designed by a Hungarian architect, Antti Lovag, in the late 70’s and is located on the Côte d’Azur. To be more precise it lies in Théoule-sur-Mer near Cannes, which includes, besides an infinity pool, curvilinear rooftops and palm trees a spectacular view of the Mediterranean Sea as well.

While creating this collection, Raf Simons, the Artistic Director of Christian Dior, was inspired by colors, textures and light of the landscapes of the French Riviera, blue, red, pink and brown ones. Many colorful patterns could be seen throughout the entire collection. I really loved the pleated skirts and dresses with metallic effects, a trend that will already be present during the upcoming summer. Another thing I liked were the plaids, which usually can be seen on shirts, but Raf transformed it into a very chic look with flowing sleeves. A look I would definitely wear!
This is what Raf said about the collection: “I wanted an idea of freedom, playfulness and individuality to come forth in this collection, especially with regard to the Dior archive. It is not a heavy concept; it is light and young and there is a literal lightening of this clothing to make it fresh. Much of the design architecture comes from Mr Dior’s manteaux, his coats. But the heavy fabric is stripped away, the scale is played with and elements of their style are ‘collaged’ into other forms and garments.”

Many celebrities attended the fashion show, among them Academy Award Winner Marillon Cotillard, who is one of Dior’s testimonials, Miroslava Duma – fashion icon and founder of buro24/7, Aimee Song of the blog “Song of Style”, Zoë Kravitz, Dakota Fanning and many others.

The venue is epic indeed. The new collection has some really nice stuff included, but honestly speaking I often think of how poor the choice of the models by Dior is at some shows. Though, great background information, great collection and great post. Thank you guys!
